Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Monday said files of works worth about Rs 100 crore have been taken up in the first meeting of the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), since he took over as urban development minister.
“Development works of all municipal councils in the state are being taken up and I appeal to chairpersons, councillors, chief officers and municipal engineers not to look at projects as ruling and opposition projects, but to place them before the department in the larger public interest,” said Naik while speaking to reporters.
“The municipal councils must pass a resolution and inform me of their development proposals. People may also submit their suggestions and proposals, which may be considered.”
Stating that files regarding development from all municipal councils in Goa were reaching his department and that he was clearing them, Naik added: “If I can undertake development works in my constituency, I would be more than happy to promote development across Goa through my department.”
“The first meeting of GSUDA was taken up and works worth about Rs 100 crore have been taken up, of which works worth Rs 50 crore are in the pipeline and the remaining Rs 50 crore of works have been estimated.”
“I have also been solving pending cases by taking up around 20 cases every Monday from 10 am to 7 pm,” said Naik.
“I want to tell chairpersons, councillors, chief officers and municipal engineers of all municipal councils to come forward with their development proposals to my department.”
“We have a great team, great staff and the DMA director also is very cooperative. I have directed all my officers that no one should go back disappointed and there should be no pending cases. Even if I am not there, the municipal councils should be entertained, their requests noted and put up before me when I come to office, so that I can take up their projects,” said Naik.
Stating that 3-4 projects are being taken up in Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Naik said toilets would be provided to MMC under the Swachh Bharat initiative.
“There are some projects of MMC which were put up by the previous council, but we will take them forward so that people will benefit,” added Naik.
“Many projects which were on hold are being cleared and tendered. I also appeal to councillors to stop thinking along ruling and opposition lines and to focus on public benefit projects,” said the minister.
